How to calculate print run weight before buying paper

Sheet size, grammage and quantity — the three numbers that define your warehouse order.

  • Run weight
  • Paper weight

Why weight matters before you order

Paper is sold in kilograms or tonnes, while production plans in sheets and run length. A conversion mistake means material shortage or paying for extra pallets.

Single sheet weight

Sheet weight (kg) = (width × height × gsm) ÷ 1,000,000,000

Dimensions in millimetres, grammage in g/m². Example: SRA3 (320×450 mm) at 150 gsm ≈ 0.022 kg per sheet.

From one sheet to the full run

  1. Count press sheets for the job (including makeready if not already added).
  2. Multiply by single-sheet weight.
  3. Round up to supplier pack size.

Use the print run weight calculator for format, gsm and sheet count in one step.

kg ↔ sheets

When the warehouse label says 80 kg and you need to know how many A4 sheets at 80 gsm that is, switch to paper weight calculator in weight-to-sheets mode.

Should I round up?

Yes — round to whole kilograms or supplier pack units for purchasing and freight.
